The ancient Portomarín is now covered by an artificial lake. In the 60's, a dam was built, turning a river into a huge lake, in order to produce energy.
The houses were rebuilt further up on a hill, some ancient buildings, like this church on the left, were taken down stone by stone to be reconstructed in the exact same way.

For the first time I am thinking about the fact that this trip will soon come to an end; I only have little more than 100 kilometers left. That I will soon return to a more normal life, with studies, everyday worries and with a lot less walking. 1000 kilometers always seemed such a long distance, the destination, Santiago, always so far away. It seems almost impossible that I might actually get there soon.
I had originally planned to stay the night in Portomarín but when I am there I feel like continuing on. The next hostel is already full when I get there, so I walk even further, to Hospital da Cruz, I get there around seven o'clock in the evening, after 36 kilometers.
