Now Spain! Roncesvalles is a tiny town, consisting of a huge abbey and a church, big enough that you would not be surprised to find it in a city with hundreds of thousands inhabitants. It was build in medieval times, when thousands of pilgrims stopped here on their way to Santiago, after having crossed the Pyrenees. We sleep in an old house built of large stones, just one big room holding a hundred beds, it is like sleeping in a church. There are a lot more people now, probably about forty or fifty. What a difference to having a whole hostel to myself as it was mostly the case throughout my first week in France.
