It is a long and steep descent towards Ponferrada, I get the impression that with each meter of altitude I am walking back into the summer; it gets warmer and warmer, the typical smell of drying plants is surrounding me and more and more flowers are blooming.
Ponferrada is a medium sized town, about 60.000 people are living here. With the exception of the ruins of a castle, built in the 13th - 15th century, there is not too much of interest, I do not even find a nice square when I go for a walk around town, just lots of high buildings and heavy traffic in the narrow streets. Already in the evening I am looking forward to get going the next morning.
