To get a feeling for what it might have been like for someone in medieval times to go to Santiago, you have to go to Manjarín. No running water, just a fountain, no connection to the common power supply system, no toilets; heating by burning wood in an old oven.
The town was abandoned until 1993, when Thomás passed it on his way to Santiago. He decided to stay and open up this refuge in order to take care of pilgrims in the tradition of the knights of the templar. He did not get to Santiago until many years later...
