One of the most famous places on the Camino de Santiago because the following miracle is supposed to have taken place here: A couple with their son stopped here on their way to Santiago. The daughter of the man owning the tavern where they slept fell in love with the son. He did not care about her though and left with his parents the next day. The offended daughter had put a silver cup in his bag and denounced him to be the thief. The cup was found and the son was sentenced to death. When the parents went to the gibbet again after the death sentence was carried out, they realized that their son hung at the gibbet alive...

...because Santiago was standing at his feet steadying him. The couple went to the judge to tell him about the miracle proving their son's innocence. He said that he was as alive as the two chickens he was about to eat. At that moment the two animals flew away.
Since then, a white cock and a white hen are held in a cage in the cathedral of Santo Domingo. They get replaced once a week.
I was not allowed to take a picture of the chickens in the church. The church was under construction, therefore I do not have a picture of it either. So here are just some pictures of the historical center of this town.
